But in 2002, my baking practice changed. My husband was diagnosed with dermatitis herpetiformis (a form of celiac disease) and we adopted the gluten-free lifestyle. I took gluten-free cooking classes and was soon experimenting and creating gluten-free cookies recipes. By 2003, I had formulated my own nutritious gluten-free flour mixture, taught cookie classes and wrote a cookie column for a celiac newsletter. Then in 2005, all three of my adult step-children were diagnosed with celiac disease. My mission became more meaningful and gluten-free cookies became my passion. I created more than 150 cookie recipes and became known as The Gluten-Free Cookie Lady. Requests for my cookie recipes led to the creation of my cookbook, Gluten-Free Cookies. Gluten-Free Cookies
includes 87 cookie recipes, each one evaluated for taste, texture and
appearance by hundreds of people. Look inside the 168-page book for my
flour formula, tips for easier baking, solutions to common gluten-free
cookie problems and much more. Among those contributing to the project
were Harriett and Curt Granthen, Granthen Studios, who donated their time
and beautiful color In June 2008, Gluten-Free Cookies was published by What No Wheat Enterprises. Half of the books were donated to national celiac disease support groups. The remainder will be sold by me. All net proceeds from the sale of my book benefit celiac disease education and awareness. I hope you have fun baking my gluten-free cookies and enjoy sharing them with others. With a little effort, you’ll receive big rewards. May your cookie jar always be full! Cookie Kudos, |
